2014 Cervélo S2 or Felt Ar5

I am torn apart between those two. I do triathlons during summer and enjoy some hill climbing once in a while. I have those two options.

The story: I ran into the Ar5 by surprise and I really liked the aggressive design and was pleased to hear that Felt actually did a good job in general with bikes (for some reason I had an (unjustified) bias about the Felts).

But then, the S2 was standing there, looking at me, and so now, I’d be curious to hear the opinion of fellow cyclists/tri-aficionados…

Both are pretty polyvalent bikes with similar geometries. I read the Felt had some wheel flex issues from time to time and the Cervélo, well, I’m not really fond of this kind of argument but, it’s a Cervélo.

Should it be this:

That’s the AR2 in the picture.

If it were me, and I were buying one bike to do both road rides and triathlons, I’d go ar5. The geometry is a little longer and lower, and would lend itself a little better to sliding the saddle a little forward and dropping the bars on race day. I doubt there is much in terms of weigt, stiffness or aerodynamics that really separates the two.

Chose based on paint, price, and make sure both fit your for your intended usage.

You were probably reading about the old AR. The new ('14) AR is a completely new bike. I recently got an AR4 and have really enjoyed it so far. Looks great, rides good; was a good price. The S2 is also a solid bike. I stare at both everyday in the store. Can’t go wrong with either.

The AR’s flippable seat post is pretty nice if you’re bi-curious.

S2 for me. Pretty sure it’s more aero, and look at that blue. it’s just eyecatching.

The S2 is a pretty old design and the Velo testing showed that the first generation aero road bike where not very stiff and that there are real aero improvements between the first and second generation. AR would be my recommendation. I really like the EPS model and the prices are not too ridiculous.
