I am looking to get some advice on fit prior to going into my LBS with my fit sheet. I used to own a 2013 SC 9.8 and it was an XL but I always felt like it was a tad too large. I was fit on that bike saying that I could go either L or XL in size. Now that I am going to the new 2014 I was wondering if going to the L will hurt my fit at all?
Why not start with your current fit coordinates (SC-style, pad stack and reach)…plug those into the 2014SC fit chart and see where they take you…then, modify the coordinates in the direction(s) you think might be more appropriate and see if the answer changes just a little (same frame, diffrent spacer), or a lot (different frame size). It’ll at least give you more info to chew on with your LBS.
Thanks Carl, you are always a great help! I have a couple more questions. I am attaching my fit sheet from Cronometro in Madison, WI. I was wondering if you would mind looking and throwing your 2 cents towards it on which frame size would you suggest.
Also for the SC7.5 do you know what size Power2Max PM is needed if i build my SC with SRAM Force 22? is it 110mm or 130mm? Thanks!
Had a longer more involved post ready to go, but in the end all there is to say is you’re still probably a tweener on the new bike. Lots of #s on that sheet but only a few are relevant and there’s too much missing to say anything with any certainty. Made some assumptions and came out with an estimated pad stack and reach of ~710 and ~495.
If those are close to reality, a Large can get there with the high-far stem but it’s maxed out on the spacer stack. Not a happy place to be if you want or need to move the pads up. Plenty of downward mobility. XL with the same stem is at least in the heart of the range (for that stem) for future adjustability. Got room to go up, and almost as much downward potential as the L.
I know next to nothing of the Power2Max crank-based powermeters. A quick check of the SRAM Force22 crank page doesn’t say if it’s available in both compact (110) and standard (130) forms…but the 53x39 ring combo they note for weight purposes is most likely based on a 130 BCD.
AGAIN THANK YOU CARL! Not sure if this helps at all. This was the Retul i had dont on my SC 9.8. Does this still confirm your theory? Or anything additional to add?
happy to help.
if there’s a page like that with bike measurements it would be helpful.
Carl,
I have looked high and low for more information on my bike and have not come up with anything. Any additional information i could provide you to help you give a more complete answer with less assumption?
a sheet like this one. looks like the sheet with all your body measurements but this one has bike measurements. seems like they should be able to reprint it for you if the original was misplaced.
This is the setup i had before i sold. Does this help? I dont have that sheet. I called the place who fit me and they dont have a sheet like you shared.
Backing up a little…
In the OP you asked if going to a Large would “hurt” your fit. The only way a frame size can “hurt” your fit is if the fit isn’t possible on that size. I estimated your pad position from the info you posted, and I can edu-guess the same based on this picture (XL frame, 100/10 stem, max spacers(?), pads ~centered on basebar…pad stack of 685 and pad reach in the vicinity of 520). Different #'s from before, but no change to the original answer…both sizes of 2014SC can hit either set of pad coordinates.
You also said you thought the XL was a bit large for you. How so? Nothing in that pic is screaming “too much bike, not enough dude”…pads aren’t slammed down on the basebar and there’s a reasonable amount of seatpost showing.
I’ll say this…the pad position in the pic would be even further out in front of the head tube on a Large…more weight over the front end of the bike…handling might be a little more sketchy out there, and possibly more so if you were to get lower in the future.
Carl,
Again you are a class act and have provided me with a wealth of information. If I had to add a reason to the long list of why I ride Trek bikes and always will ride Trek bikes is because of examples like this Thank you!
The only reason i thought a large might be a better fit is to get into a more aggressive position and i felt as if my torso might not quite be long enough to get comfortable on the pads. That being said it was a small worry and before placing my order for my 2014 SC i wanted to get a little more piece of mind.
