nice to finally see AP ride a cleaned up bike in a real position with a real helmet. Good work to whoever’s been working with him.
ETA: also the TriRig service course full meal deal!

I think he going to win Kona this year.
I think he will beat me at LP this year - that is for sure - met him there last year - really nice guy, friendly and happy to chat.
I agree. Looks good. Very fast bike split at Oceanside too.
OK, slightly off-topic, but since he is wearing them…what is the general consensus on the aero drag / penalty of compression calf sleeves?
I have been running for the last week in compression socks the last week after my right Achilles flared up two weeks ago. A week off of running and starting for. Ground zero (again). The socks seem to be helping, but who the hell knows…
Anyway, if I end up sticking with them, I have zero desire to wrestle them on in T2…but don’t want to ride in them if they are a huge aero penalty.
Thoughts?

I’d love that. Too bad he was hurt last year - it seemed like the most focused he’d ever been for the big island. It would be fantastic to see his best shot at it.
I’d love to see him bring it home in kona. I still think he’s the best hope for 'merica (with all due respect to tim o’donnell). Its easy to root for him (despite the fact he’s a wolverine).
He had a good interview on competitor radio last fall-ish.

I myself like to wear toe socks (like Injinji ones) but the time penalty of getting each toe in position in T1 just isn’t worth it, so they’re never a triathlon thing for me. If you do it, be sure to have a thing of baby powder standing by to help.
I guarantee the aero penalty is negligible. You can wear them under a wet suit. You’ll just have a decision to make if its a non wetsuit swim.
I live in Chicago…ALL our races are wetsuit legal.
I have a podcast somewhere where the guy did some testing and compression socks were actually a huge aero PLUS…but IIRC, he only tested at 0*.

They are a huge aero plus (now banned by the UCI), but need to be the ribbed ones (Zoot, CEP, Zensah) vs. smooth ones. The ribs enhance boundary layer adhesion and reduce pressure drag (like dimples on a golf ball or a Zipp wheel). Your calves are probably 2-3X as wide as the tubes on your bike, and stay pretty much vertical throughout the entire pedal stroke, so there’s lots to be gained.
I personally don’t like calf sleeves for the run, but use them for the time savings on the bike (about as much as an aero front wheel).

JACKMOTT… CALLING JACKMOTT, what say you?
No rear disk. -5 Slowtwitch points.
I think you mean Jim from ERO
.

Isn’t he American? Don’t Americans these days only do well in American races? When no one decent turns up?
Sure do. The Germans do well when no one shows up as well? Your point? Guy put down a fast bike split today and finished second with a 4 minute penalty. The race was stacked with a great field. So by you saying he only does well when no one shows up is dumb.
Not a chance . He’s good or 70.3’s. for someone trying for so long at Kona he just not seem to produce long course results that translate well in Kona. Sure a fav to many but not in the 1%'ers

He and T.O. 1’st and 2’nd would be awesome to watch. I’ll root for T.O. 1’st since he is Team RWB.

30" penalty actually. Source: http://lavamagazine.com/socal-speedsters-frodeno-wurtele-claim-70-3-oceanside-titles/ He later said it didn’t affect the outcome of the race.
I’m not as optimistic as you about Kona. He’s won this race (Oceanside) 5x already. He’s a very consistent athlete though and I’d expect a top ten if healthy.
