Beet juice… I buy 12-15 500ml bottles from Whole Foods (Biota brand) and drink one per day for the 2 weeks prior to an A race…
Anything else is just a pain in the ass.

Beets me.
Thank you! Thank you! I’ll be here all week!
I roast them for about 45 minutes, actually prefer the golden beets as I find them more flavorful plus they don’t turn your pee/poop red.
plus they don’t turn your pee/poop red.
But that is the best part… I leave a steamer in the toilet whenever I’m out and drinking the special sauce. /pink
I have a European wife so we have Borscht like once a week maybe. Surprisingly its good!!
Roast them in Balsamic, olive oil and honey mixture. The Biotta’s actually are pretty good as well.
I am big believer in beet juice. I plan on expanding the garden this spring just to grow more beets. This is what I do…
2 beets per day for 2 weeks prior to the big race. I run the beets through the juicer. They make a big ole mess. Then I combine with apple juice because beet juice doesn’t taste so great by itself.
I believe they work. Even if they are just placebo, I will take positive placebo effects.

I do as well, although I only start drinking it 5 days out. I recently read somewhere though that Biotta may not contain as many nitrates (presumably the go fast stuff in beets) as it is organic. Beet-It touts their sport shots has having higher concentration of nitrates than their organic shots, and I think the only difference is the beets that go into the sport shot are not organic.

Considering it is just beets and high quality, I’d guess it has plenty of nitrates… They aren’t marketing their product to athletes which gives them a little more credibility in my book… It is all about quality…
I consume 500ml for 3 days prior to the races, and 3 hours before the race in the morning. One interesting thing to note about this is do not use mouthwash during this time. Check out the full details in this article

I’m new to Beets. What is the benefit?

Good point, and it looks like you are correct. Found this article online - way too long to read the whole thing, but I did notice that they referenced Beet-It is having 5.5 mmol nitrates, and Biotta having 9 mmol in a 500 mL serving.

This is all you really need to know about them: taken from this article
“Statistical analysis to derive the true effect of the intervention indicated that dietary nitrate supplementation may have a practical and meaningful benefit for athletic performance. In the real world, an 11-second advantage in a 4-km cycling time trial and 45-second advantage in a 16.1-km cycling time trial separate the podium finishers from the rest of the pack.”

They turn your poop dark reddish purple and make it look like it is bleeding… Basically the coolest thing you will ever see.

We usually eat them twice a week as part of dinner (oven roasted more or less straight up). Each morning following I get a text from the girl: “Settle down, you aren’t dying, it’s the beets from last night.”
We use them in out daily juicing. Roughly 2 per week total.
HATE beets.
Would you eat them in a box?
Would you eat them with a fox?
Would you eat them in the rain?
Would you eat them on a train?
; )
I heard they were supposed to make you super-human.
