Bike purchase opinion poll: 2012 Trek Speed Concept 9 vs 2014 Cervelo P2

The title says it all; I had a Retul fitting that clearly stated I could ride either the SC or P2 (new geometry) with no fit problems. Was looking at a 2012 Speed Concept 9 series all Ultegra 10 speed vs. a 2014 Cervelo P2 with upgraded bars to 3t Aura and Ultegra 11 speed for the same price. I’m definitely leaning towards the Cervelo unless the collective knowledge of ST points out some glaring difference that I have not seen. Can do either for right around 3K. Before some one says it; I don’t have the extra funds right now to go up to the 2014 Speed Concept 7.5- I have looked at one already.
As always, thanks for the help and knowledge.

I would say it depends on your desire to go to 11-speed. My other bikes are 10-speed, so I would choose the Speed Concept.

If you don’t have race wheels/other bikes that share parts, then pick the Cervelo if you think it’s prettier.

The SC9 is faster and looks better, go with that!

I’d go new.

Maybe look at a 2014 speed concept 7.0? I got mine for $2800. Put a Vuka Alumina base bar on for now and upgrade to the 9 series cockpit later on if you want… or get the new P2. Not that far behind the SC.

I’d like to revive this thread as I have the chance to buy a 2012 (new) Speed Concept 7.0 for $1850 or a new 2014 P2 for $2100. Both are 10 speed and will be upgraded to 11. Both have nearly identical fits so Id like to hear everyones take.

Thanks.

Is the SC a 9 series? If so, it will have an aero edge (guessing 20-30secs/40k in full race trim). The P2 will be much easier to travel and I’ve with. IMO, only go 11sp if you upgrade to Di2.

The SC is a 7 series.

Where did you get those numbers on aero advantage- that seems like an awful lot when compared to a new P2/3 no?

Thanks

I think the 2014 P2 frame is really nice… except for the paint job, colors, and high stack. If those things don’t bother you, get the P2. With some nice bars, wheels, and Tririg brakes, it’s probably as slippery as anything out there.

P2 comes with kinda bad aerobar.
P3 comes with ok aerobar
2012 SC 9 comes with awwwweesome aerobar

Where did you get those numbers on aero advantage- that seems like an awful lot when compared to a new P2/3 no?

Still sounds like an awful lot of time Jack.

what does it take to convert the 2014 p2 to 11 speed. I think it rear der, shifter and cassette. Anything else?

NP2 and upgrade the aerobars & get an Omega.

I just bought my first tri bike, the 2014 p2. Is the aerobar bad just in terms of aero or other stuff. I will likely upgrade but not immediately.

go with the newer model

Bad in terms of aero. Not sure about fit.

See this thread: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=5209967;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread

Its about the NP3 but its applicable.

Calling the T2 wing an aerobar is pretty generous

So I know you guys like to talk about aero in terms of time saved or Watts saved. Compared to the aero bar that comes with the P3 (3t auro) how much improvements can be seen. I havent picked my bike up yet, should I think about an upgrade now or wait and see?

Those numbers were just 9 series vs P2 estimate. Old 7 series vs new P2 I’d say get the new P2 and invest in a better cockpit.
