I am signed up for Boise70.3 June 7th then will be racing Ironman Coer d Alene June 29th. What should the plan of attack be on these two races
my main focus is the full distance and really signed up with friends doing it for the first time. Boise comes at the end of a rest week and the weeks
after are peak weeks that are fairly easy and focused on recovery. So I guess I wonder should I give Boise 100% and would I be recovered by the
29th, or just take it as a hard training session. I was thinking this would be a good hard stimulus going into a taper. Thoughts…
I have done Boise a few times I am 32 and recover pretty well.
Thanks
Swim hard, always swim hard.
Bike like it’s an interval training set, don’t over do it, hold to you training zone and really rest during the breaks
Run IM pace, seriously just run Easy, nice little jog along the river path.
Focus on nice smooth transitions and work on your nutrition plan.
Or go big and risk your A race for the year.
Depends on how long you’ve been racing and how well you know your recovery time.
sounds reasonable, I have been doing full distance for 3 years and 70.3 races since 2008 and running marathons.
Just so hard to hold back, but I think it will be a good big day workout
If you’re goal is CdA, save it for CdA.
There is always Lake Steven’s or Calgary if you are looking for an IM branded events within a “reasonable” driving distance. Assuming you ID based. And CdA is so early in the NW summer that there are plenty of other half distance races that you can line up and knock out of the park with your IM base fitness. You have already decided what your A race is now be smart about it.
Thanks, I am in Washington so lake stevens would be a good one, If they will let me do the new switching thing, I may do that.
If you recover quickly then think of Boise 70.3 as one of your last hard training day before CdA. Race the 70.3 but then take a couple days off following the race and go straight into your taper. I did 70.3 St George and then Ironman Texas (two weeks apart) last year and it worked very well. I am planning on doing the same thing this year.
