Charlotte's Mayor arrested for bribery

http://www.hngn.com/articles/27489/20140327/rob-ford-says-crack-scandal-old-news-at-first-debate.htm

Dems in North Carolina have been touting him as the future of the Democratic Party in NC…yep, he fits in perfectly!!!

Why so negative? He gave the city 114 good days. Or so.

No way. Democrats, taking bribes. This hasn’t happened in years.

Here’s my prediction: The CA state senator, the Dems in Philly & the Charlotte mayor will get off, not because they are Democrat, but because they are minorities.

I had that in my original draft. I’m thinking twice before I post now;). I figure if something is obvious, other intelligent people will open the door for me.

It seems like white politicians get caught in sex scandals. Black ones for taking simple bribes. One involves thinking with your little head. The other one means you feel it is culturally accepted or you are stupid.

You can bet. Right now, at the Charlotte office of the FBI, some receptionist has ‘the’ call on hold while she pages John Strong (the division chief) to say, “Mr. Strong, I have a Mr. Eric Holder on the line for you. He says he is calling from Washington…”

For background, this guy stepped in behind Anthony Foxx who went to Washington at the request of Obama to be the new Secretary of Transportation. Canon also served under Foxx for several years on the town council. I don’t know how much Foxx knew about Canon’s willingness to take bribes, but I’d bet he at least had an idea it was going on.

For some interesting reading, here is a link to more background: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2014/03/27/4797821/fbi-cannon-boasted-of-connections.html#.UzRI_qhdV8F

It was interesting reading about a lot of the places mentioned in the article. Living only about 20 miles north of Charlotte and in town frequently, I have been to most of the meeting spots they describe. I have been to the Capitol Grille many times.

But wait there is more. Two more to be exact.

Rode Island Speaker and New York Assembly man.

All of them minority, Holder must be having a shit fit right now with none of them being white.

I’m out in Cary. I had to laugh at McCrory’s response yesterday. Like he didn’t know either? Pahlease.

The one thing that would have completed the mayor’s downfall would have been “hookers and blow”, a-la Marion Barry. At least Canon made it easy for himself and resigned.

Yea, I see an Obama political appointment for Patrick right after the charges are dropped.

Hah, yea, I can’t say I wasn’t thinking the same thing. He has known Cannon quite well for many years. Cannon was in McCrory’s brother’s wedding.

I hope it’s not true, though. I know Pat and believe him to be a ‘good guy’ with a strong moral compass. At least, that’s my take, FWIW.

Ah, to be a privileged minority in the US justice system.

I’m not thinking they will walk. I mean look at it, you have an attorney general who views himself as an equalizer, and black politicians haven’t done so well in the justice system. I’m just curious why it seems like so many minority politicians seemed to get charged and convicted of corruption recently. Let’s add Vincent Gray. DC’s local gov’t is a bigger cesspool than the federal gov’t. Maxine Waters, Charles Rangel. Why is that? I don’t think they are more corrupt, is it they think they can play the race card if caught? Is it because the black community excepts this behavior from its leaders? Are they just inept about finding a way around the rules? Do they even care? Or is it selective prosecution? Seriously want to know.

So do the authors of this article in a black blog.

First, I’m not convinced that minority politicians are being charged and convicted in disproportionate numbers. I’d like to see some statistical evidence that it’s actually the case before making wild guesses as to why that’s the case.

That said . . .

Second, I suspect political corruption is more closely correlated with a region’s political culture before anything else. Chicago was corrupt when it was run by whites and before minorities got elected in any significant numbers. Same for Louisiana. When a Ray Nagin gets convicted, I’m more likely to think that’s a Louisiana/New Orleans thing than a black thing.

Third, what constitutes tempting quid pro quo to one person may be different than what is tempting to another, and background, where one’s from, past and current economic situation, etc., plays into that. A local city council member who still lives in a poor neighborhood and struggles to pay bills is more likely to be tempted by a blatant bribe than a well to do council member. The latter, however, may still be just a likely to accept disguised bribe in the form of a legal campaign contributions. Both may be selling out their office, but the former may be more likely to get caught.

Drugs though, especially crack, seem to be what bind our Mayors - black and white…American and Canadian.

Uh, being a minority did not work for Kwame Kilpatrick…

Seriously, what the hell is the matter with you?

Kilpatrick was caught somewhere in in 20009-2010 and sentenced for bribery and corruption under the Bush DOJ, his further convictions and sentencing were under the Obama DOJ lead by Eric Holder. Detroit at this point was so far under and had declared bankruptcy, Obama/Holder didn’t care about race, because they had their sacrificial lamb (poster child) for greed and corruption that brought down the former 4th largest city.

So no, there is nothing wrong with me.

Two words: Eric Holder

You pick out exceptions here and there, but Holder’s bias is well known. He is still determined to nail Zimmerman for something, even after forcing a trial that should never have happened by overriding the local controlling authorities and a multi-racial jury declaring him innocent. Even three years ago, he was being called out on it:

Getting back on topic, the FBI generally doesn’t go in unless they’ve already been given the green light by an AG that they’ll have the evidence and desire to prosecute.

So we can hold off with the scary-black-agenda meme until they actually decide not to prosecute for some reason.

It’s not a ‘scary-black-agenda meme’, but nice try attempting to make my post sound hysterical. Holder is prejudiced…period.

More from his Wikipedia entry:

“When you compare what people endured in the South in the ’60s to try to get the right to vote for African Americans, to compare what people subjected to that with what happened in Philadelphia… I think does a great disservice to people who put their lives on the line for my people.”

Ahem, ‘…my people’? Are you kidding me Mr. Holder? And, his statement implies that he will not be prosecuting any voter intimidation events until they exceed what people endured in the South in the '60’s. So, he is still clinging to some sort of vindictive attitude for events that happened over 50 years ago.

“Former lawyers who had served under the Bush Administration have stated that the current DOJ under Holder is unwilling to prosecute minorities for civil rights violations. Three other Justice Department lawyers, in recent interviews, gave the same description of the department’s culture, which department officials strongly deny. In the months after the case ended, tensions persisted. Eventually, Christopher Coates (of the Justice’s Civil Rights Division) testified that she told attorneys at a September 2009 lunch that the Obama administration was interested in filing cases - under a key voting rights section - only on behalf of minorities.” (emphasis added)

I suppose those statements can be summarily dismissed since they were made by people connected to Bush, right?

But, OK, let’s see what happens. I predict that something will happen, but it will be far less than deserved. The evidence is pretty damning. It’s one thing to take bribes, but to solicit them by offering favors and naming a price, well, that’s pretty egregious. He might go down hard, but more than likely, the case will drag out long enough to fall out of the media’s eye and he will get off easy as a result of a lame duck president and administration that will not worry about the political fallout.

So are you saying that Fast and Furious didn’t happen without his green light? And by that it would mean he either approved selling guns to the cartel or his agents went rogue?

No just saying it’s kind of silly to start talking about lack of will to prosecute black people in a thread about the impending prosecution of a black person.

It’d be better suited to a story where there’s no intent to prosecute. Maybe dredge up a New Black Panther thread.
