Custom Paint on Aero Helmet?

This may be a silly question, but does anybody see a problem with getting custom paint done on aero helmet? I didn’t know if there was any special paint/treatment that was needed or something that should be avoided. Thanks!

The only thing I can think of is a ref interpreting that as a “modification” of the helmet, in which case it could be considered illegal. I honestly think the sport would be safer if they spent their time making sure thing like stem bolts being properly torqued rather than worrying so much about helmet stickers.

No kidding. Thanks. I didn’t even think that would be an issue.

I think the general consensus is that it’s technically a modification (which makes it against the rules) but next to no one has ever seen it enforced (several pros get their lids airbrushed professionally and have no problems)
.

You should make sure the paint is compatible with the material the helmet is made from. Some lacquers are “hot” and can damage plastics unless you use a primer. I’d consult a experienced paint shop before experimenting on an expensive helmet.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:

search “slowtwitch trash talk helmet paint”

all you haters, suck my balls.

And nothing you create can look much worse than this…

Might be better, and cheaper, to get a neutrally colored helmet and apply vinyl graphics to it.

Thanks for all the info. I’ll do it.
