Dave Mirra busts out a 2:08 bike split (w/ tail whip 540) at Galveston 70.3

So Dave Mirra’s pretty fast, and you have Robbie Miranda winning the Marathon Crash race and terrorizing the Cat 1s at SoCal crits (not to mention me, former pack fill of 30-34 Expert smoothly transitioned to M40-44 pack fill) doing OK in triathlon. Allen Foster works at Felt, etc. etc.

Anyone else?

Well he was a BMX rider. On a tangent, anyone know what length cranks he runs on his TT bike coming from BMX background?

I’m really surprised Mirra hasn’t rec’d more press. He’s arguably one of the best BMX athletes in history & no one is batting an eye…if I saw him at a race, I’d be 10x more starstruck than seeing Hines Ward.

right. all of the above four guys are former world famous BMXers.

I remember when I switched from 185s to 180s… it really made a difference allowing me to spin and have a 4th straight for once.

But freestylers, they probably have whatever’s best for landing tricks, not torque or power or spin

Those guys have always ridden bikes. While he has too though a gas powered bike, Ben Spies has been making a name for himself on two wheels under his own power. But good riding by Mirra.

totally. it’s surprising he still has a functioning brain let alone a huge hit video game, large business, bazillions of dollars, and apparently a budding future in triathlon. I’ll be seeing him at Kona one day in the 40-44 for sure.

Dang! I had no idea BMX required that kind of endurance conditioning!

Brian, I totally whiffed on your post. I should have said something like “yeah he has palmares, but is he a USAT All-American?”

sorry, I’ll do better next time.

He did the Syracuse 70.3 last year. My brother was in his age group and we have a M last name. I fat fingered my brother’s bib # in the IM tracker and it pops up Dave Mirra. I thought, “Hmmm… I wonder if it’s THE Dave Mirra?” Saw the bike split and that he was from NC and thought it must be (and it was). After the race my brother goes, “Did you see Dave Mirra?”

Looks like he learned how to run. Which he boogered completely at Syracuse.

Sidenote: We used to BMX race together. Our fathers worked together when Dave lived in the Syracuse area as a kid.

Still can’t swim that well but with a 2:08 bike split who cares…

He would’ve possibly won the AG if he could swim for shit.

Brian, he will. I can’t say but it’s coming. He threw down today, no doubt.

Looks like he DNF’d the run at Syracuse. Also, his swim split was ~1 minute faster and his bike split was ~15.5 minutes faster from Syracuse to Galveston. Talk about massive improvements. It’s always amazing to see what elite athletes can do with focused training.

Syracuse was hot as balls last year. The swim course was also a touch long and the bike course is nothing even close to similar to Galveston. The run course at Syracuse is no walk in the park either. Tough to compare the two races really.

Definitely cool to have him out there and ripping it up though. Good for him.

He did Raleigh last year….and am betting he will do it again this year, since it’s close to home.

I may have to head out to the ol stomping grounds this summer and get in a few rides with you two. The offer to crash at your place still stand?

LOL. I was next to him on the stage today at Texas 70.3. Finished one spot behind him Super nice guy. You would not of known he was a bmx legend. I did not. I shook his hand and told him great job today. He probably was laughing at me inside like dude if you only knew.
