Drive (the movie)

I watched Drive last night and it was far far better than I expected. In fact, I accidently got it, I have no idea how it appeared on my netflix queue.

It’s not like Fast & Furious 9, which is what I was expecting. More of a neo noir existential movie that I’d dare call, at the risk of sounding like a douche, a film. The violent scenes are REALLY violent but the lack of dialog (there’s not a lot of gosling talking) made it surreal. Who knew that Gosling fella can act (though he was good in the sex doll movie and now I’m going to rent his self hating jewish neo nazi movie).

I will admit I drank a tall dose of cough medicine (I am legitimately sick… not in college) and I did feel tingly in the legs mid-way through. The moby-like soundtrack helped. I watched it while eating a pint of Talenti Sea Salt Caramel ice cream. You should do that if you watch this movie. Or just do it in general (I mean the ice cream, not the medicine, or, maybe both).

Drive is really great. I’ve only meet a couple people that didn’t like it.

I talked about this a while back in my angry man thread. I included the elevator scene in it. Great flick. Great soundtrack to. Kavinsky’s Nightcall is the opening theme. Check it out.

Saw it several months ago on Netflix. Wasn’t expecting much and ended up thoroughly enjoying it.

The cheesy 80’s vibe that the movie intentionally had was DARING and it worked. I knew as soon as the opening credits started that this movie had some balls.

Absolutely. In fact I gave it ten minute while I seriously questioned the cheese and the it grew on me and eventually made the whole movie.

My wife rented it when it came out on video because Ryan Gosling is in it and she thinks he’s cute.

Then the movie got incredibly violent and she stopped watching it.

That’s a very telling difference between men and women. If there was a movie that was 10 hours long with romance music playing and women discussing emotions, I’d keep watching if there was a little nudity :-p

We loved it, the whole vibe/feeling of the movie. Bought the dvd and downloaded the soundtrack. I didn’t know what to expect, actually had to talk my girl into watching it, and its now in her top 10 list(mine too). The way to test real talent in an actor is to give them a role with few lines, make them act with facial expressions…Gosling killed it…

Great movie…amazing soundtrack.

Interestingly, Gosling and the director of Drive teamed up again for a movie last year called “Only God Forgives” and I can honestly say its one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Nobody has mentioned Albert Brooks. I think this was his best performance. Usually the guy plays the stereotypical neurotic person, but he was a real bad guy in this. Made Ron Perlman look like a pussy.
