Guys and Gals,
I would greatly appreciate for you to share any endurance/stress/fatigue related health episodes you have encountered as an endurance athlete. If there are previous threads that discuss this topic (sure there are) please point me in that direction. I recently admitted myself to the hospital after having symptoms of chills, aches, GI distress (felt like food didn’t digest),irritable, and huge fatigue. I checked myself into the ER a few hours after a fruitless urgent care facility visit and when symptoms became severe. The best way I could describe the feeling was as if the life completely sucked out of me, could black out any moment, or was having some type of organ distress/failure. Drs did significant amount of blood work to test for any anomalies. Specifically tested for strep, flu, mono, rhabdomyolsis. Nothing abnormal came back with the tests except white blood cells were a touch low indicating a possible virus. No fever. The dr believes my system was extremely run down from work, travel, and exercise then I caught a virus they don’t test for. Without a diagnosis, I am obviously concerned of several conditions endurance athletes experience.
If you could provide some background the following it would be great:
What did you have?
What was the diagnosis process (or undiagnosis) like?
Symptoms- type and how long did they last?
What was done in recovery?
What type of doctor did you see?
Some info on my day-to-day:
I typically travel with work say 35%, but lately travel had a fairly big uptick. I have been on the road during the week 6 out of the last 8 weeks and 50% of those travel weeks I did additional travel on the weekend visiting family (not coming home)
Training- Weekly training volume has been normal for what I typically do: 8-10K pool, 100 miles bike, 30 m/wk run
Thank you so much reading the long-winded thread and taking any time to reply! Maybe I should have begun the thread “correctly diagnose and prescribe rehab for my symptoms and win a Polar V800 watch”?
