Can anyone point me to an free online source for factual news? Every rag that I can find either leans way left or way right. I do like the WSJ, but don’t want to pay the subscription fee. I sure would like a source for accurate reporting.
Right and Left leans are often a result of American political slants by the owner / editor-in-chief. You will have to look outside the US media for unbiased, neutral and good reporting.
BBC News, Al Jazeera English, CBC News are all good options, particularly if you’re looking for a neutral perspective on US political news.
The Economist is the best at meaningful and insightful analysis behind the news, but you need a subscription.
Do yourself a huge favor and read a good book instead. The “News” is all fiction anyhow … and not even good fiction.
You need to pick at least 3 news reports to follow. One should be international. A real story will be covered by at least 2, and the facts should remain similar, though the writing style will lean.
There is no possible way 1 source is good enough. If university teaches nothing else, it should teach this.

Yea, I listen to BBC in my car. Never thought about Al Jazeera. thanks
Hmm, don’t like right or left lean? But like the WSJ? Hmm curious hmmm do tell me more…
I like BBC; Economist is good but not free, although I read it in my local library. Also, not news, but I also like Atlantic, New Yorker (but don’t like the elitism), & Harper’s (limited scope but my fave) but you may not like their “left-leaning”, although I feel like everything on the news is just banal and intellectually lazy compared to the really insightful & incisive analysis by the likes of Hendrik Hertzberg, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Jonathan Chait, & James Fallows among others. For me, the quality of the ideas, arguments, and reporting trump whatever real or imagined political affiliation.
