Feeling optimistic about the future?

I have a cure for that.

"The biggest reason for a Hillary Clinton presidency for Americans is that she would be the first female president, according to a new poll.

Asked what the best thing about the former secretary of state being elected president would be, 18 percent of those surveyed in a Gallup poll released Friday said her breaking the gender barrier. That total was double the next answer, which was her experience and foreign policy chops.

In third place, with 8 percent, was that she would be a change from the Obama administration."

The best thing is that in the 2016 campaign we’ll get to hear all the details again about Bill’s affairs.

As voters we deserve the crappy govt we get if polls like this are accurate and really reflect what we want.

It wouldn’t be nearly as disturbing if she weren’t the frontrunner, or in the midst of a foundering Democratic presidency that came about for reasons other than demonstrated leadership and notable accomplishment.

It’s almost as if people have thrown in the towel on the office. Novelty over substance.

There was a huge turn out of people that voted for Obama simply because of his heritage and nothing about his politics. Look where that got us…

If one ties their outlook to a group of oligarchs and megalomaniacs that seek nothing more than feigned legitimacy to rule over them, then I would suggest that person has already lost the race toward optimism.

To roughly quote an article from The Economist about voter apathy “Everyone agrees that democracy is the only game in town but most seem to think that it’s a game no longer worth playing.”

Because that’s where we are in America.

Agreed - the most important consideration in choosing a leader are the personal details her or his love life and associated indiscretions.
Then we can take a quick look at where they stand on the economy, foreign policy and all that other crap.
And then back to which of them loves Jesus more.
We might as well run political campaign stories only on TMZ. And maybe Fox News (but only if Beiber is not getting arrested that week).

That was a good (and sobering) article:

.

I suspect if you polled people who voted for any candidate you’d find and sad percentage of them made the choice based on reasons that have nothing to do with their leadership skills.

Being just under thirty I expect everything will have gone to hell by the time I reach what would be called ‘retirement age’ at present. If you’re republican it’ll be because we went communist and were crushed under the weight of onerous regulations. If you’re democrat it will be because global warming has unleashed terrible effects around the world. The one thing both parties seem to agree on is that things will suck.

My Mom voted for Al Gore in 2000 because of “the way he kissed his wife” on stage in that infamous make out session.

My mother’s political views were to the right of Reagan.

To me, it suggests people don’t see her intellect and abilities as anything extraordinary.

It would be interesting to see these same numbers against the last couple Presidents.

Do you think Bush was elected because of his intellect? Clinton? Daddy Bush? Reagan?

I’m honestly not trying to defend Hillary, just trying to play Devil’s advocate and look at these numbers in context. I’m not an automatic vote for Hillary but I’d like to see her run.

So 27% of the responders - the highest percentage - refuse to entertain the notion that a H. Clinton presidency could have a single benefit of any kind. That’s a lot of dislike.

There’s a portion of this country that will never be satisfied with a president of the opposite party. That goes for both parties. But really I don’t see why this poll is any better or worse than others. I find the fact that more than half the country doesn’t believe in evolution more troublesome.

I know. When asked about same sex marriage, I would love to hear a candidate reply “Once we solve poverty, education, hunger, crime, jobs, drugs, infrastructure, the environment, fair taxes, and infrastructure, then I’d like to focus on whether or not the government should actually get involved in Jim’s decision to marry Bob or Sue.”

There are alternatives with substance?

Just listen to the republican primary, you will hear lots of folks spouting off that we cannot walk and chew gum at the same time. You got plenty of folks telling you that govt. cannot do more than one thing at a time, i on the other hand would like one that can multi task…And if you are going to wait to solve poverty before you do anything else of importance, i might suggest you invest in some guns and a bunker…
