Hip replacement (1)

For anyone facing this, just had one done using the Anterior approach, surgery done at 8 A.M., out at 3 P.M. the following day. At home rehab visit x 3, back to no restrictions in 1 month. No pain meds needed after 3 days.
My Doc is super fit, understands the need/wants of the athletic types, but in my case said NO running/jumping. All else O.K. Ceramic on ceramic. I hope this can be of help to anyone having to grt this done.

I wish you well with your recovery.

One of my athletes training for Challenge AC had a hip replacement about 6 years ago, so it doesn’t need to be the end of endurance sports for you.

I ended up asking my pt not to come back after one visit because she was too used to dealing with 75-80 year old folks (I was 42). Just did my exercises religiously. Made a set of steps so I could get back on my bike trainer after a week. First ride 2 minutes. Maybe 90 watts. Next day three minutes. Wash repeat. 6 weeks later I had the second fastest bike split at a local tri. Walked the run and had a blast. 6 months later I used Barry P program to come back to running. 1,2,1,2,1,3…that’s minutes. Took a long time to build back up but it was worth it to me. I did my first IM(LP) this summer.

I’m not advising you or anyone to run on a hip replacement. Just saying it’s possible. I’m a pretty light guy and am light on my feet and will be 45 this summer.

Best of luck!

Don

Thanks for the replies! I think the Doc is also factoring in my dysplasia, no reason to hasten another replacement (:.
Tks!
