Since Hoka and Newton shoes are a “mid drop” shoe (not zero drop) should there be much of a transition going from Hoka to Newton? New to Newton. Thanks for any help.
Just added the Newton Fusion III’s to my running shoe stable. I wanted a shoe with a similar drop to the Hoka’s but I wanted more stability.
The Hoka’s are much softer and I wish my first run in the Newton’s had been a little shorter. I went a little longer than I should have but they are working for me so far.
Cap your long run to 70% of your longish run until your feet get used to the firmer sole.
Thanks for the feedback! I ran in my kswiss after Hokas and had sore calves for a week after a 1:40 run. I thought going to a shoe with more drop would have been an easy transition…nope.
Why a change if the Hokas are working for you?
For me, they are good for training, but a bit like battleships on my feet. Enjoy them, but likely won’t race in them.
I run in the Stinson and Bondis.
I have looked at the NB…I think the 980?.. and was thinking about giving them a go. Any experience with those? I have also found that I have needed to size up in the Hokas because they seem to be pretty narrow near the toes. They seem to have the volume, then taper differently than most…or I have messed up feet.
i’m surprised that you would think ANY shoes, let alone newtons, would be more stable than hokas. i find hokas extremely stable, especially the bondi. that said, i’ve got the bondi and conquest coming to me in a half size smaller than what i’ve traditionally run in, because over my history in hokas it seems the shoes have gotten very slightly bigger every couple of years, both longer and wider in the forefoot. so i’m going to test this theory and see if i’m just imagining things. this has led me to consider the current bondi, in my size 12, less cocoon-like than the bondi of, say, 3 or even 2 years ago. that has made the current bondi not feel as ultra stable as the older iterations, and i’m going to see if maybe i get that back with a half-size smaller. but, even as they now are, the bondi is still an ultra stable shoe.
Fusion III’S have 3mm drop and a good bit of stability and not too much cushion. I think it’s a new model. My Homa’s are Bondi 3’s.
Drop: difference between center of heel and center of forefront midsole only
Stack Height: missile, outsole, insole, and everything else between your foot and the ground.
The two measurements create base feel and ride
Midsole makeup and durometer along with rubber create the remaining 50% of feel and ride.
Upper construction and fit on your foot finish the package.
I will stick with drop. There is drop on the shelf and then there is drop when you are running. They are not the same. Compression changes the dynamic
1 New to Newton from any shoe, your legs will need adjustment it’s not bad, it just is
2. If all you do is run in 4mm drop and you switch one day to 12mm drop you are asking your lower leg to do too much and you will feel it. You need to adjust that direction too.
Understand that drop is just a measurement on a blueprint. Your foot, your running form and all the other things that make up the feel and ride are so much more important.

Do you mean Motion? Motion and Gravity have 3mm drops Distance and Elite have 2mm. Never heard of a Fusion model
Oops your right! It’s the Gravity III’S that I have.

Doing the exact same - just ordered a pair half a size smaller.
