I am surprised. you can still register for ironman Melbourne 2 days after general entries open. I think the last two years it has sold out in minutes. anyone have an idea why its not sold out?
I was surprised to see that as well. Frustrating too, it’s a race I really want to do but it’s not in the cards for next year.
Hard to say but Busso isn;t sold out as well and that race usually sells out on day one! neither is NZ or Cairns
Its a very saturated market and we might have reach close to the limit in the number of races we can have in a year
I would rather WTC consolidate some of its races and try to build “iconic” ones. Have wave starts so that there can be 3K to 4K participants and increase prize money to get top notch pros, instead of putting so many additional races that no one really falls in love with…
In short, nice to have another one or two Roths a year!

Last year it took a week.
The interest isn’t there.
It will sell out, just slower.
Its a race for cheats that draft.
Do another is my advice.

interesting—as my experience was just the opposite. this, of course, may be related to the fact that i’m toward the back of the bike, and saw next to no
drafting during my 112 mile tour.
and as for the “do another” advice, i’ve found myself saying the opposite of this, too. i loved it, thought it a great race, and aim to go back next year.
which is to say, it stands out to me as a really good one.

Yes , all melbourne finishers are dirty rotten cheats and should hand back their medals
.
There definitely was drafting. Even if you were towards the end of the bike, with those loops you can see huge packs all over the place. I think I only saw one person at the penalty box. What a shame really. This race could do with some wave starts!
I disagree with the other poster that said everyone that finished should give back their medal!

Out of interest what time did you do on the bike? I’ll send you some pics so you can see what you missed out on.
