Oceanside: Behind the Scenes with Jesse Thomas and Jan Frodeno

Shortly after Jesse Thomas, CEO and creator of Picky Bars, announced that he would not be racing at Oceanside this past weekend, the triathlon superstar agreed to sit down and have an interview after watching the race.

“It’s always disappointing to sit out at a race like this, so close to home, this race holds a sacred place in my heart.” Jesse was clearly distraught to be cheering on the sidelines instead of toeing the line with the likes of eventual winner, Jan Frodeno. But Jesse had some interesting news without even reaching the start line in California this weekend.

“In a promotional effort, I’ve decided that 90% of my diet will become solely Picky Bars. These things are delicious, packed with nutrients and naturally gluten and dairy free, they’re a triathletes dream.” Jesse continued to promote the company and his new diet strategy.

“People always say to train how you race, and I’m training so many hours of the day, it just makes sense from a performance, economical and business standpoint.”

Other competitors responded to Jesse’s new dietary regime. Jan Frodeno sat down with us moments after Thomas dropped the news.

“I’ve never had a Picky Bar in my life, and I seemed to do fine today.” After further questioning of Frodeno, it was very clear he was annoyed of the attention that Thomas was taking away from him. “I won, he wasn’t even in the race, this is madness.”

Thomas responded by challenging Frodeno to a Picky Bar eating contest. Frodeno declined.

Tim Don wasn’t able to talk for long but he seemed confused by the idea of Picky Bars.

“I only eat ‘Jungle Oats,’ they allow me to go ‘Wild Boy Style’ on my ‘Kenyan Day.’"
