Power Tap G3...broke spoke, replaced it, now it doesn't work

Had my Power Tap rebuilt 3 weeks ago. Yesterday, I popped a non drive side spoke on a ride. I replaced it and trued the wheel. I went to ride today and when I calibrated the hub, it said - 8 thousand something and it wouldn’t communicate with my Garmin. Anyone else have this happen? I guess I have to send it back AGAIN… If I have to send it back whenever I break a spoke I am definitely gonna move to a crank based unit. I am not easy on my equipment and had both my Power Taps built with heavier spokes because of this.

Breaking a spoke won’t cause the kind of problem you are describing, no.

If your powertap has gone bad, it would be coincidental. Make sure it isn’t just a low battery in the head unit or powertap hub, or a garmin firmware issue though first.

It’s only 3 weeks old so I wouldn’t think it’s the battery. I’ll change it tomorrow when I get home. I use a garmin 800 as a head unit. This pt has been a problem for me, I have another that’s almost 3 years old and it’s always functioned perfectly.

Make sure everything has the latest firmware on it just in case.

But yeah the spoke isn’t going to cause it to not pair up. I’ve done a whole crit with a broken spoke and the data was ok =)

Its only three weeks old, or you had it rebuilt three weeks ago? Who rebuilt it?

The hub was upgraded to G3 by Saris. The wheel itself is a couple years old.

If you haven’t already, try doing a manual zero.

You’ve only had it three weeks but the hub or battery may have sat on a shelf or in a box for a while.

while stopped, with nothing touching the pedals do this: (garmin calls it calibration but it is really zeroing)

I do that before every ride. It’s been calibrating between 509 and 512 since I got it back. It calibrated at -8 thousand something this morning before the ride. I tried it after tbe ride and it was 705…but it still won’t read speed or power when I pedal.
