How do you know what you need to do to qualify for KONA at IMMT?
Just assume that you need to be top 2-3 in your age group. Depends on age group, but hey… Just going to say - you need to go real fast.
How do you know what you need to do to qualify for KONA at IMMT?
Honestly, you really don’t. It completely depends on who shows up, and if faster people in front of you either already qualified or don’t want a slot for Kona. As Colin said, winning or placing in the top 3 in your AG generally gets you a spot. From last year, swimming a 1:00-1:05, biking 4:55-5:05 and running 3:20-3:30 got you a slot in many AG’s.
yikes!!!
What is your age group and what is your best recent stand-alone marathon time, or 112 mile bike split?

3:15 3rd weekend of last september with 4 long runs over 13 miles (15, 17, 21, 21) 7 weeks before. i only decided to run it in august so I wouldnt say I was really ready for it…dropped 5 minutes off pace in the last 5 miles…it was ugly but i thought I ought to do one before doing an IM.
so when do you find out if you have qualified?
You should know how many slots are in your age group before the race start, or at least have a good idea since it could change race morning. You probably won’t know during the race unless you have some freakin eagle eye friends/family tracking you and your competition like a hawk on the athlete tracker. Once you finish you can check how you placed on the live results and unless you are on the bubble you should know. If you’re on the bubble, like 5 slots and you think you came in 6th…it’s gonna be a crappy night’s sleep before the next day’s slot handing out ceremony. But if you qualified, man will it all be worth it. One of the greatest feelings in your life!
Cheers and good luck,
thanks…just checking out last years results and it seems whatever your AG rank is in the marathon is what they finished in their AG…interesting!!
Right now.
