School me on upgrading my 2014 Trek SC to DI2

I have a recently purchased Trek Speed Concept 9 (2014) with the following;

Sram Red Groupset (10 speed)
Sram RED GXP crankset

I am now toying with the idea of upgrading this to DI2 and also swapping the PM for something that will run the shimano rings.

I have seen various upgrade kits on ebay for most of the DI2 setup, bar the wires.

Before I make the plunge, I need to figure out if I can do this myself and what I need to get, and how much is it going to cost.

So, I have a few questions if anyone would care to answer.
What wires will I need in addition to the kit. It has front and rear junction boxWhere do I place the junction boxes. I believe the fron goes under the stem cover on the SC, but the rear goes where?Do I need a special battery/mount and where does it live on the SC. It all needs to be hidden.How do I replace the current bearings, which are pushfit. This may well seem like a simple answer, but it’s the one thing I have never done in my wrenching career. What PM would be a good fit for DI2 and the shimano rings. Any other things that you might feel I should be aware of.
Thanks in advance.

Chris

Hi Chris-

here’s a good reference list (sub out DA for Ultegra where appropriate)the JC41 box is tucked into the frame by the BB…the EW90 box is strapped to the top of your stem coveryou’ll need the seatpost battery holder (PN w332400)there are instructions for various crank&BB makes in the last several pages of the service manualwill leave this one to the ST collective wisdomit’s pretty straightforward, especially if you start from an “open” frame (cockpit off, BB removed).
charge batteryrun the battery, derailleur, and communication (from BB to cockpit) wires thru the frame and connect @ the BB via the JC41 boxrun the cockpit wires (do the Di2 wires first, then brake housing) and make connections at the shift & brake pods plug all the cockpit wires and the commo wire into the EW90 boxinstall derailleurs and make those connectionsmake battery connection and do a quick electrical function check (does it shift from all positions) before buttoning everything upinstall BB and cranks, and go thru the Di2 setup instructions (limit screws, trim, etc).

I hope they pay you well Carl. Many thanks (again)

I have Di2 11 speed on my 2014 SC 7.5 and love it. If you are not 100% confident in doing this project I would take it to my LBS and have them order the parts and do the labor. A little extra money, but at that point it’s all on them to get the correct parts and get it installed correctly. Hopefully you have a great LBS that can handle the task. Good luck.
