SuperDave: Felt aerobar part needed

Long story short, I found a stripped nut in some secondhand Felt clamps. I ordered new mounting brackets/bolts because I wasn’t sure what was affected. Had to drive 45 minutes to the nearest felt dealer. Get home, start assembling… and there’s no new nut.

Is there a way to get this part directly? The only place i’ve found online doesn’t ship to the US:

Thanks!

I think I have 2.

You can use the bars without them thought right? They are just risers? My wife has two of them sitting in her spares pile but then she swapped out the pads and cradles so her bar setup has changed a bit.

No, this is actually the part that the bolts on the extension clamps thread into. I thought they threaded directly into the basebar clamp, but this piece is hidden from view when it’s fully assembled and acts more like a locknut. It’s inside, right in between the upper bracket assembly (http://www.felt-stuff.com/felt-upper-lower-bracket-bayonet-3-aero-bar.html) and the basebar. Hence why I didn’t even know it existed :frowning:

you might be thinking of this: http://www.felt-stuff.com/felt-washer-spacer-set-bayonet-3-aero-bar.html

or this: http://www.felt-stuff.com/felt-spacer-for-bayonet-3-aero-bar.html

that second piece, I don’t have or use.

The distributor for Felt Bicycles in the USA typically does not conduct B2C transactions. Have you asked the dealer that is a 90 minute drive if they’ll send the nuts to you in the post?

Best of luck, I bought a set of bars that were take offs that didn’t come with these nuts (they were the only pieces missing from a complete set). Not only did my local felt guys not have the nut, when they called Felt, Felt said that they were indefinitely out of them (that was around July 2013). I was able to return the bars to the sender (less my shipping costs both ways).

Hardknox,

As a shoe editor here on ST I will be more than happy to help you out. As a Felt dealer we have had some issues in the past and I bought a bunch of them so I have plenty in stock.
Email your address to me at hilversum@tri-run.com we will work something out for you.

Yes, I mean like that.

Of the 300+ parts of the DA bicycle, Felt’s USA distributor sells about a dozen of them on their online service store. Primarily these are wear items or frequently lost/misplaced parts when a bike is prepped/packed for travel such as a triathlon destination. Derailleur hangers are also included among the few items. The process for consumers in the USA to source Felt products is to have a Felt Dealer order the special, unique, or mechanically complicated parts from Felt directly.

Snark.

I just had an issue with a badly corroded bolt on my DA top crown. Dealer didn’t have one. Dealer called Felt. Felt wanted to sell an entire top crown. Tried to find an alternative at the hardware store - no luck. Had to buy on Amazon - but I got titanium so that’s cool!

I’m not really bagging on Felt. I love my DA2 and AR1. And I love my Felt dealer. I’m just stating a general C preference that manufacturers be B2C-friendly for parts. By contrast I wanted a new bolt for my HED bars, called HED, and the guy who answered said, "No problem, and dropped a bolt in the mail the same day. Done. No nonsense about “we’re not allowed to do that because of our agreements with dealers,” etc. Dealers can’t - and don’t - stock all 300+ of your parts. The most C-friendly policy, I think, is just to sell the damned things directly. Again not directed at Felt, but the industry.

+1. had a similar issue a while back with a Felt part. I have had other companies send me parts directly no problem. I loved my Felt but have switched to Scott…

Oh, I’m a big champion of this actually. The USA in particular has an incredible challenge in maintaining the delicate dealer relationship. Without having to go into a soliloquy useless for the aforementioned consumer it would be a short term gain to circumvent the dealer network with the current sales strategy employed by Felt and the majority of our competitors.

In Europe, click-n-buy is far more common, thus the Felt store that services many of those countries.
