Suunto users: your experience?

My GPS watch is progressively flaking out.
I’ve had a number of quality control issues with this particular brand, so I thought I’d see if a different company produced a reliable product.
What say you, Suunto watch users?
Quality product, or nay?
What has been your experience?

  1. I understand uploading to Training Peaks has to be done manually for some (all models?).

  2. When my friend uploads his files manually he has yet to be able to figure out a way to look at power data on TP.

  3. Data fields have to be configured from the computer and not from the watch itself.

Ambit 2s owner here. Love the aesthetics/profile of the watch and nearly unlimited configuration of screen displays (via setup on PC). But as stated above not being able to transfer to training peaks without first hooking up to movescount then exporting as a .xls file is a major shortcoming.

For me, swimming accuracy indoors is also hit and miss. During sets it can be dead on for 400 yards, the off by 100 yards the next set. The accelerometer apparently needs an aggressive change of motion to count the length.

If I ha the choice now between My Ambit and a Fenix2, I would get the Fenix 2

Similar experience with an Ambit 2 that I’ve had since October.

It looks good, and can be worn as a casual watch compared to a lot of fitness watches and the battery life is pretty awesome.

I don’t use training peaks yet, so I can’t comment on that. Hopefully that’s just a software issue that can be fixed via future updates.

I find the swim tracking almost useless to review after a workout, I gain really only one piece of info from it post workout ~ total distance (excluding any kick sets or drills where you don’t move your arms a lot) . But I suck at swimming and the swim classes I do are heavily drill oriented and I typically only complete 2000-2500m /hour which in turn shows up considerably shorter if there are kick sets or drills. In the pool I find it will record sets just fine for regular swimming provided you have a good pushoff and are efficient in your turns. I use it basically to just track my interval times, I’m not sure what else you need it to do when swimming.

Running and biking it works great, I also used it skiing/ski touring/and hiking.

Other than that, the watch itself has been reliable and proved to be pretty durable / resilient regardless of what weather/temperatures/things I’ve hit it off of. Movescount/Moveslink was frustrating to get working at the start, but now it operates smoothly.

I wouldn’t need swim metrics - those would be too depressing.

Basic running and cycling metrics would be fine.

I just want something that doesn’t fall off my wrist while running, that powers on/off reliably, picks up GPS quickly, and reports basic run/bike metrics accurately.
And has a long battery life.
