Swim Video Critique My Stoke

I would appreciate any help in identifying the top 2-3 improvements I could be working on to get faster. I started swimming 10 years ago. Best times are: 25m DS=14.6, 100m DS=24.0
Oly Dist=27:00, 1/2IM=38:00, IM=1:14. I swim with a Masters group 2x a week and typically get in another couple of swims each week. Thanks

As far as form goes, I don’t see anything major. You have a pretty nice stroke. Maybe a slight crossover in the front, but that’s about it. I couldn’t see how your hips are oriented in the water, but from the front of the stroke it looks like they’re probably fine.

Your stroke isn’t holding you back. You just need to be pulling harder.

That flick you do half way through your pull (more pronounced with your right arm); don’t do that. You are letting go of the water at that point.

There are a handful of minor issues to work on.

It looks like he’s rotating a little too far to breathe. I can’t tell if that’s causing his kick to stop or not, but if it is, then he’ll need to start and finish the breah slightly earlier in the stroke cycle. That slight hitch in the stroke.

The danger here is that his stroke IS pretty good, so introducing a change in one area can cause another worse problem somewhere else. He’s really at the point where an experienced coach on deck is necessary.

As far as stroke goes, all i would recommend is working on that slight crossover at the front, and then taking a hard look at what the training looks like. Any other stroke changes I wouldn’t want to recommend over the internet without a wag to provide realtime feedback.

Nice looking stroke, if only a little “old fashioned”. I should know it’s how I swam and still go back to often. Your pull is very deep, almost no elbow bend. If you go look at Gary Hall’s video he explains it better than I ever could. The difference in speed as I would understand it, is the difference between the world record (100m) when I was competing and the current records. 5 seconds or 10% faster. That would translate to a 1:07 Im. Worth looking at.
Of course you could just shave down, that’s gotta be worth a minute or two :0).

You’re rolling around and gliding too long just a bit. Focus on an even faster turnover and no lag time between catches.
