I’m looking at selling my guru cr.901 triathlon bike and switching to an aero road bike. Am I crazy? I race a half iron almost every year but never more than 2 races a year but am constantly riding all year long. So, do you think this would be a worh while change for me?
If it is one of the good aero road bikes, then you will be fine.
You’ll obviously lose time since you can’t stay in TT position, but if maximal performance isn’t an issue, then definitely go for comfort. Life is short. Enjoy it.
What about setting up your guru like this? Kind of gets you the best of both worlds.
If you regularly road ride in groups then much nicer to be on a road bike. An aero road bike with clip on aero bars will be a bit slower over a HIM but not much if you get one like an Cervelo S2 with a flip around seatpost.
I’ve solely ridden a P2C for 5 years but this year got into road bike racing so also got an S2. Love them both but am thinking I may sell the P2 as unless I aim to do another IM I can’t really justify it gathering dust. For a given power I find the P2 is about 2km/h quicker versus the S2 being ridden solo on the hoods on a flat road. With clip on arobars it would be less.

You’re not crazy… You’re slower.
