Thoughts on selling my bike(s)

I have been a longtime lurker on the slowtwitch forums, but never really have posted much, but I want to gauge peoples thoughts and reactions to my current plan. I got into tris a couple of years ago, but last year I got both IT band syndrome in my right leg and patellofemoral syndrome in my left knee; needless to say, last year hurt. I am also on a local bike racing team who I regularly ride with.

I have a triathlon bike (SC 9) and up until recently I had one road bike (2010 Giant TCR Advanced SL 1); I train on both bikes, but with the knee injuries last year my Giant became hard to use because the seatmast causes it to have a rather fixed position that is hard to change up (you have to use spacers), and impossible to move down (without cutting more off of the seatmast). An opportunity came up in November of last year to get a Cannondale SuperSix Evo and so I jumped on it as the bike was a great price and it has a seatpost (hurray for both up and down movement!). I don’t have the space to keep two road bikes perpetually, and since I like having a seatpost, I want to sell my Giant. I have been asking around $2300 for it, but no one has bought it. People have showed interest but then just flaked out. It is in good condition, but has some cosmetic flaws on the seatmast where the topper goes on.

First question, am I asking too much for the Giant and if I am what is more reasonable? Second is should I just try selling the Cannondale? Since it is a 2013, it is much newer and would probably sell more quickly, but I really like having a seatpost now and I am afraid now after last year for my knees health which after PT have been improving but could still pop up again in the future. Additionally, I am going to buy an engagement ring soon and would like to have sold my Giant before this to pad my bank account a little bit and if I have enough money left after that I was thinking of getting a Powertap. Please post your thoughts and be kind to the newb.

Post pictures of the bike on the classified with details and see what offer you get. I realize you may not be able to post in the classifieds yet if you haven’t posted much here but that will give you a far better idea of actual value. I have been screwed over on bike stuff on ebay (Xlab without the original/correct mounting brackets, Brompton bike in MUCH worse condition than advertised, ect) and have only had great experiences on ST classifieds to the point I am actually willing to spend more here than on ebay. At first the idea of buying and selling $2k+ bikes without the protections of ebay is admittedly unnerving but if it didn’t work you wouldn’t see so much stuff and bikes listed.

I definitely plan on posting to the classifieds when I am able to; I have heard a lot of great experiences of people using the classifieds here. I am really wary of Ebay lately as I have been hearing mostly horror stories of scammers and stolen goods. Thanks for the input!

Yeah its rarity has been one of the things making it difficult to price for selling it. It seems like not many people are in the market for a high-end bike in KC right now even with the weather getting a lot nicer recently, but I don’t really want to lower it too much. As soon as I can I will definitely be trying to sell it in the classifieds here.
