Would you upgrade to Dura Ace di2

Basically I have the opportunity to upgrade to a Dura Ace 7900 di2 setup. I’m really intrigued by the idea but the fact that my current bike (Felt B14) isn’t di2 friendly makes me worry against it. The externally routed wiring is an option but I wonder what sort of negative impact that might have on the aerodynamics of the bike. Sure it isn’t a super bike and I’m not pushing the bike to its absolute limit but I still don’t want to hinder the bikes aero performance.

So that said would you do the upgrade or search for a new bike equipped with di2?

Definitely!

would not even hesitate for that price
.

And if you pass on it at that price, can you send it my way?

depends on how much shifting you do. I have used it on a road bike and it’s nice technology, but I doubt I’d bother on a TT / Tri bike, it’s not exactly edge of your seat wheel to wheel action

Di2 is a no brainer. Get the upgrade and then buy extra bull horn shifters so that you can shift while climbing and during training rides etc. Its amazing.

I would pull the trigger, no questions. If I couldnt make it work on my current nike…I would get a frame that would.

Nope.

What performance benefit with respect to improving power, aerodynamics, comfort, or efficiency are you really gaining.

I say this as an owner of Di2 on a road bike. Won it as part of a charity raffle. It’s great, but it’s not life changing nor do I go any faster because of it.

Choose zing > bling.

No! I have Ultegra 6770 on my Giant TCR Advanced. And it’s great! No derailleurs going out of adjustment, auto-trim, and you can shift under load.

But, for 7900, no. This was a two season group. It’s out of production. Replacements (shifters, wires, derailleurs and junction boxes) will be hard to find in a year or two).

I think there is some advantage. I find myself shifting more often with DI2, especially in the front.

There is no excuse for not being in the correct gear

This is true… but parts are still available now and will be at least for a while. I stock piled a few parts… extra shifters and wiring kit.

I would upgrade for 600… and buy a few extra parts just in case.

Go for it. Shifting under load is great while accelerating and climbing. Buy an extra wiring harness in case you pinch it while traveling or for a future frame swap
