I’m usually not one to post these sorts of things but, IMO, this is pretty egregious. They (the LAPD) claim the man reached for the officers gun. There are… five or six?.. cops subduing the man and he appears to be face down and he’s being tasered(sp?) when he’s shot. I respect that police officers have to protect themselves but this strikes me as a trigger happy cop executing a man either because he’s incompetent or he’s just trigger happy and wanted to shoot someone.

I thought the same after the man is claimed to have been tased five times. Hopefully more videos will surface.
Notice the skinny woman who picks up the baton and joins in. Two cops have to leave the dead guy to take care of her. My guess is without her escalation the situation he isn’t dead right now. Its bad enough trying to deal with a combative guy resisting arrest, but you shouldn’t have to worry about being attacked from behind in the process.
Stop apologizing for the cops. I just watched the video and counted: four cops were covering and tasering the homeless guy while two other cops were cuffing the “woman”. The guy was face down with multiple tasers in him. Not even a jacked-up meth head could do anything from that position.
There are other, better quality videos out there where they don’t censor the people’s faces. That “woman” is about a 12 year old girl.
It’s almost impossible to see what actually happens in the video, because it’s so unsteady and they blurred a lot in trying to blur the faces.
It absolutely wasn’t just “a trigger happy cop,” since the report says three separate officers fired on the guy. Maybe they were all trigger happy, but that doesn’t seem likely.
Several witnesses have said that the guy either attempted to get or did get possession of one of the officer’s guns.
I heard on the radio that one of the cops can be heard saying in the video “he’s got my gun” which would imply that the guy got his gun.
Don’t know if this true and I did not hear that in the video.
That being said the dude was fucking spazzing out at the cops, fighting them. They were in a shitty neighborhood (really, really shitty) surrounded by who knows how many people (and I will tell you this right now and I don’t care what anyone thinks about it, EVERYONE in that is present in that neighborhood is fucked up in some way or another, there are NO GOOD PEOPLE in that area, ever). So the cops were surrounded by a dozen or so pieces of human debris trying to subdue a dumb asshole piece of shit.
A friend of mine got beat up by the cops, and he did exactly as you described. He was, by the way, completely minding his own business at the time. He ended up getting $80K out of the law suit (one of the reasons why they target blacks to harass is that they are less likely to sue………they picked the wrong black guy).

Personally, I’m glad they shot the guy.
Though Skid Row has hundres of SROs, it is not classified as a neighborhood. The area is the worse I have ever seen with the worse of the worst sleeping on the streets, yet there are two police stations two blocks away and high priced housing around the corner. None of it makes sense.
I watched a few different uploads of the video and some posters are reducing the volume. I could hear it for sure. A gun grab or an attempted gun grab is at the top of all use of force models.

It happened on the corner of E. 6th and S. San Pedro, Los Angeles CA.
I encourage everyone in the LR to go there. Check it out.

I know exactly where the incident took place.
The editing of the video makes it almost impossible to see what actually happened. I’ll say this, though- four to six cops ought to be able to carry out an arrest safely once they have a dude on the ground. I don’t know if they were trigger happy or not, but if it was a justified shooting, it’s only because they screwed up same basic shit to start with.
I guess I come down on the side of law enforecement until proven otherwise. I mean in this day in age who really wants to shoot or beat someone with 8 I phones filming it? Who wants their career instantly ruined? People provoking you for a u tube video. Nut jobs. Why anyone would want to be a cop these days amazes me.
Eh. I am all for giving police the benefit of the doubt. Right up until there’s evidence to the contrary.
There might be a lot more cell phones out there today, but I’d be shocked if the vast majority of police offenses don’t still go unrecorded and unpunished.
Either way, if you have a guy on the ground, and you have 3-5 of your cop buddies right there with you, nobody should be getting shot. Bottom line.
Yeah, of course. But that doesn’t really address the cops’ responsibility, and as a citizen, I’m more concerned with maintaining responsible and competent police than imagining cooperative criminals.
