My ride today got me thinking about deep wheels in windy conditions… At what point does the wind have a negative impact on deeper wheel selections? I’m a bigger guy (6’2" will race between 183-190) and ride a set of ENVE 8.9’s with a disc cover in most situations. I have been thinking about picking up a 6 front just to have for super windy training/racing days but I’m wondering if there is a point that having the 8 front is actually a penalty? I consider my bike handling skills to be decent to above average (especially for a triathlete).
Yes there is a point where having an 8 is a penalty.
Now what that point is? Depends on you. If you get out of the aerobars out of fear or fall over…that is bad =)
I’ve been tending towards 6 up front since the new, blunt nose wheel profiles come up since the low to mid yaw performance is so close.
