Due to time restrictions, I haven’t ridden my bike at all this year while training for Boston. My first tri (70.3) isn’t until August, but I’d like to do a small, local duathalon at the end of May. The bike portion is 17miles, so I am thinking of using Trainer Road 40K plan or the 20 min FTP builder? By no means is this a priority, but trying to get my FTP backup as well. Thoughts/suggestions are appreciated. Paul
Biking comes back real quick for many people if they have been running a lot. The aerobic fitness is all there. I would try to ride outside more than focus on structured intervals for the first few weeks. You wan to be sure you can handle the bike, that the fit is comfortable outdoors etc.
Just bike lots that first month, practice staying in the aerobars, and you will be flying.
Makes sense and sounds A LOT more fun that my route. Thanks for the input.
I am signed up for amzof 3 weeks after Boston and the only biking I have been doing is to work and back (really short). and then 2 weeks after that have Rev 3 quassy - so after Boston figure I am swimming and biking and just doing some speed work for running until those races.
counting on biking coming back fast
Well, you’re probably not going to win your age group. But, your running will be solid and you have a few weeks to re-build a bit of bike fitness. Go for it.
I always do a local du 3weeks after boston and spin twice a week during my boston build up. I don’t worry about power, it’s just a good check to see how I’m recovering from boston and let’s me know what kind of volume and intensity can be added. Usually the result is quite good as long as I’m recovering well. Just have fun with it! I think of it as the start of the multisport season and go from there. Then I generally do a half in June and a full in August. See you in boston!
