Marine Corps Marathon - Defer

Does anyone know If I were to defer this years entry, would I have to pay the registration fee again?

While I can’t speak to the MCM’s specific policy, I don’t know of any large, mainstream race that allows free deferrals. Typically, the ability to defer without needing to reapply is regarded as the gift.

Although there is no such thing as a free deferral, the MCM does allow you defer with a deferal fee. If you pay the fee, you don’t have to pay the registration fees again in the subsequent year.

I deferred last year and had to pay a fee (I don’t remember what it was). However I did not have to pay for this year’s entry.

Same here. I had to defer last year (along with my wife) because she was injured and couldn’t run. The option was there so we took it. The cost was like $49 each I believe to defer. Which is steep when the cost of the event is something like $100 per runner. However, it’s still better than losing out altogether. But paying the deferment doesn’t mean you are in. That just sort of “reserves” the opportunity. The next year (about a month ago in my case) you will get an email that will have the info needed to officially re-register. That part was no cost. But it you forget to re-register (because let’s say you changed your email provider and never got that email message from MCM) you would be out of luck and out of the deferment fee.

have you emailed the race director?

Yes you can defer and there will be a fee. Here is the link, nothing about the fee yet. You can also transfer your entry to someone else…I am in but my sister didn’t get a lotto spot and is looking for one. If you (or anyone else) is wanting to transfer/sell their spot. Let me know!
