Water temp in half ironman miami in October ?
How is the race ?
Water temp down there is mid to low 70s that time of year. This will be my first year there.
Miami Man or Ironman?
Assuming you’re talking about 70.3 Miami and not Miami Man…
No way are water temps in the mid 70s. It’s normally mid 80s and definitely not wetsuit legal.
Weather is mid / high 80s and humid unless there’s a cold front.
Swim is in Biscayne Bay and most likely will be smooth. It’s a wave start and if you’re in one of lower age groups (30-34, etc…) you’ll be in one of the last waves and have to zig-zag the swim and bike.
Bike is completely flat (and boring), out and back on a local highway. If you’re into drafting this is the race for you. You can hook up with groups of 30-40 riders and just cruise along.
Run will be hot and you climb that causeway 4 times.
Thx for responding Is the run hilly and is there any visibility in the water.
considering this half or Cozumel Half ironman
thx again
Is this an official IM event? I may be in.
Thx for your help
Are there any hills on the Miami Half ironman

Yes, but it’s a franchise. I am not sure how this works, but if you go to WTC’s site, there’s a link for the “official website.” There are some minor differences, i.e mostly in the merch tent that I noticed. No hat at finish. NOLA seems to be the same. But otherwise, 70.3 slots etc.
Ditto to the comments above. Calm swim, although there is some sea grass at the far end, kinda gross to swim thru. Easy sighting of boats, buildings, etc. Non wetsuit, although 2012 was wetsuit legal due to a hurricane nearby. Looong run to T1
Bike is a drafting cluster. If you start further back, there are plenty of legal drafting slingshot opportunities. But lots of the blatant stuff as well, and big packs of them. First 5-8 miles or so is urban, three train tracks (not all covered), potholes, lots of turns etc. The north out and back is smooth but as mentioned boring. Headwind out, tailwind in.
Run is mostly flat but those 4 causeway crossings got to me. Not steep but last forever. Not much shade.
Very well stocked aid stations. Carried a hand bottle with me and got ice at each one.
Happy to have done it but wouldn’t go back to do it again (primarily because I am on the west coast).
