Re: Polar V800 - Ask me anything [Hjalmar]

I’ve used my V800 for a week now.

Does anyone know how to add completed training sessions (where I did not wear the V800 for) to the diary in polar flow?
(I swim weekly indoor, without the watch, as cross training for the runs.)

I would like the recovery status and training load to be realistic. Having said that, after my run today the 10M with hard intervals I ran are in the diary, but the recovery status has got me only scraping off the bottom. Doesn’t give me a time when to train next either.
You can’t add a session to the diary :(.
For training load: you have to wear HR meter to get accurate results. You can read more on this on Polar pages.

Hi I’m new and want to buy the V800. I’m going to use him primary as running watch and maybe cycling in the future.
I like the looks and feel of this watch, but don’t know the ins&outs. Only from reading and watching a few video’s (there aren’t that many).

I want to know a few things before i pay a lot of money.

  • If you choose for the race pace option, do you only see the pace that you are before or after?
Or can you cycle between different customized trainingsviews? Like a normal activity.

  • How is the sound alerts? Are they loud enough? Same question for the vibration.
I know the Garmin 920 has great alerts/beeps and vibration.

  • When is polar updating Polar flow, so you can make complex phased workouts? Just as in polarpersonaltrainer.com.

  • Is the ticking on the screen a workable feature?

  • Will polar introduce live tracking in the future? The garmin 220, 620 and 920 has this and it’s a nice feature.

  • What are the benefits from a V800 over a 620 or 920? If i primary look at running options.
Garmin has the extra features like Live tracking and running dynamics.

You can cycle

Some say too weak. For me they’re mostly ok. Although I would not mind an option of stronger vibration.

Promised Dec 30th. We’ll see.

It is. Not for laps in my opinion but for quick status check or light it’s adequate.

This one is for Chris

It has a better look
Better GPS accuracy than 620. No info on 920 yet.
Underwater HR for women and bra-wearing men
Some say more stable but taking latest issues into account (random battery drains unfixed for over a month) I guess some would disagree. I was not affected yet.

Is there an export feature to get raw data into excel via csv or txt format (or similar)? Say I go for a ride or run, can i now look at all the data in MS Excel for some data manipulation?

Okay from an activity tracking perspective but worth a read.

In polar personal trainer (RCX5), it was possible to add average HR to sessions and get training load that way. It was very useful because I’m not using heart rate strap during swimming (at least until some one makes one that does not fall off on each turn). In Polar Flow I haven’t found this feature and now I’m missing the load from my swimming workouts totally. Is the average heart rate possible to be added to a workout afterwards in Polar Flow somehow?

Another question: is there going to be possibility to get running cadence without stride sensor? It should be possible as it is possible to get cadence also in swimming. And no, I’m not going to buy stride sensor size of a brick. I’m using ~5 pairs of shoes and I’m not willing to move the sensor between the shoes (or even less buy 5 sensors). Is the running cadence from watch in future development list (I can pay the price of a stride sensor for the feature if it’s about money)?

Cheers,
Mikko
