One of my 808 stickers got partially ripped off in transit, so I just decided to remove all the stickers except the little red ones. Now there is a definite spot where the stickers/decals went. I washed it with warm water and so there’s no longer any sticky feeling, but you can definitely tell there was something there.
Any ideas for something that might clean up the wheels so everything is uniformly black but won’t damage anything?
So I may have misspoke. The residue that was left by the decals is gone, but there is a color difference between where the stickers were and the rest of the wheels. In fact, the color under the decals looks like the whole wheel should, and everything else looks a bit faded. Is this from uv rays or something? Any cleaners that would recondition the look of the whole wheels?
Zipp recommends heating the decals with a hairdryer (not a heat gun) prior to removal, then removing the decals (I used the hairdryer during this process too). Next they recommend using acetone to remove the decal residue and to clean the entire surface. If you’re replacing the decals this is the time to do that. Then they recommend wiping on a coat of Armour-all to eliminate any fading or discolorations from where the decals once were.
These steps worked perfectly for me when I recently replaced all of the decals on my 808s and disc. The Armour-all made the wheels look amazing.
I think you’re likely SOL as the uv rays have faded it. You could try polishing them like a car with a fine compound but it’s probably a waste of time and depending on the kind of brake track you may make things worwe
