Subaru Forester or Outback

Trying to choose between the two. Looking for positive/negatives, recommendations, etc.

I’ve driven both. I preferred the ride of the Outback more. It also felt roomier front to back, which is more important to me than height. Both are solid choices.

Are you a lesbian? If you are go with the Forester. If you aren’t go with the Outback.

LOL… I’ll let my wife know.

Recently ride in a buddy’s 2013 Outback- tight, quiet ride.

I have a 2008 Forester- handles great, 90k miles and zero problems. Road noise sucks ass (also my tire choice- very long-wearing Michelin Defenders).

I didn’t like how the next generation of Foresters felt to sit in, but I hear the newer ones are better (2014 is a new model year). The tiny back seat has been fixed, and fuel economy has improved.

I revel in my Forester being a lezmobile. We call it Rainbow 6.

I’ve had two Foresters, one Impreza, and zero lesbians. Compared to the more “carlike” subies, the forester has pretty impressive ground clearance if you have really bad roads and/or lots of snow to deal with.

No issues with the Forester other than looks, and I’m not a lesbian.

I drive a 2011 Outback. Best all around car I have owned and I have owned a lot of cars. In general, fairly quiet and comfy ride, runs like a beast in the mountains, you can four wheel like a jeep, sturdy build and interior, lots or room, not too many gadgets, which I like.

We have two Outbacks, a 2012 and a 2002 (still handles like a champ after 150k miles). I test drove a Forester when we got the newer Outback two years ago and didn’t find it to be as smooth a ride as the Outback, I also think the Outback is a bit roomier.

I wish we wouldn’t have gotten rid of my wife’s 2000 Forester back in 2004 - that car would be running a heck of a lot better than my 2000 Ford Focus wagon. The reason we got rid of it was to trade it for a Dodge Grand Caravan and it didn’t have enough room for me to carry all my foto equipment plus an 8-foot backdrop (inside car).

Somewhere around 1980 and shortly after the introduction of the Brat, Subaru made the switch from hippiemobile to Lezmobile. At least that’s what it says on wikipedia.

I had the same debate and went with the Forester because I thought the height in the cargo area would work better for my tall dog (greyhound), and I was unsure about the roof rack bars on the Outback being able to work well with my Thule cargo box. A friend purchased the Outbak and after looking at the roof rails, I think it would have worked fine. No problems at all with the Forester and I’m at 80k miles, but my next one will be an Ouback because I think they look nicer.

My wife drives a '12 Outback as her daily driver and its our family truckster for road trips. Smooth ride, decent mileage, our Yakima Skybox works well with it. Zero complaints.

I have an outback. I can’t say much about the forester but I will say this:

If you’re into XC skiing, you will notice that 75% of the parking lot will be outbacks.

I’m assuming the Skybox would work on a Forestmuncher too?

I’ve driven both, the Outback is definitely more “solid” feeling and sounding.

The other 25% will be Volvos.

I own a 2014 Forester. My Dad has a 2012 Outback. The Outback rides nicer and is more comfortable. The shorter wheelbase of the Forester really makes the ride very choppy. My wife says riding in the Forester makes her seasick. If I had to do it over I would have spent slightly more and gotten the Outback. Not unhappy with the Forester but the Outback is just a better all around car.

If you go with the Outback, change out the rear sway bar. It won’t feel “rolly” in turns. I love my Outback.

Assuming it has the same fold-up bars, I would think it would work fine…
