Translation, our RC pilot didn’t know how to fly the thing, lost orientation and now we’re trying to find someone else to blame.
Right before the first transition away from the surfers one guy looked like he was going to get douched by the wave and some how stayed up.
I have no idea how difficult/fluky that was but it looked cool.

Disclaimer: I don’t surf.
So how do people stay out of each other’s way? I imagine people ‘running’ all over each other out there, and getting hit by a board in the face can’t be fun.

Living where I do, I’m able to go surf with (or be in the lineup with) some of the best. I know some of these guys personally and train bjj with a few pros (including one ex WCT competitor who famously went nuts in a post heat interview and was given the boot). Tom is still the man IMHO.

Yep. I could watch that bottom turn all day.
Wasn’t just any athlete either, it was the wife of local pro Courtney Odgen (who’s been to Hawaii several times) and I understand she was the defending champ and possibly leading at the time.
They (videographers) at one stage tried to say it didn’t actually hit her and that she got spooked when it came close, turned to look at it and tripped. That differs from her version where she quotes hospital staff removing part of the blades from her bloodied head!
